WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LASER AND INTENSE PULSED LIGHT ALSO KNOWN AS IPL?
When considering laser hair removal treatments, it is important to understand the difference between Laser and IPL. Both use different technologies to produce light energy and different properties of the light are used for treating hair removal.
Laser machines produce a single wavelength of light, which is a highly concentrated beam for very specific targeting like targeting the hair follicles and not the surrounding skin, achieving better results, safer treatment and a decreased risk of burning.
IPL machines produce a broad spectrum of wavelengths and cannot be focused to a concentrated beam. The range of different wavelengths are dispersed at a variety of depths so only some of these will be effective for hair removal. IPL machines do not use lasers for treatments, so more of the light is absorbed by the skin, leading to heating of the pigment in the skin. This is why there is more of a risk of burns for a darker skin type.
